Orbit Saturn III Pop-Up Gear Drive Sprinkler Circulation Device

I did this project to solve dead spots in my tank caused by the gaps between powerheads.

The sweeping pattern of these sprinkler heads does the trick. Most of the job is removing all of the parts from the sprinkler head that we don't need.

Here is the Orbit Saturn III before we start taking it apart.

Step 1.
Unscrew the large black ring from the top of the sprinkler tube. Pull the
sprinkler head out of the tube.

Step 2.
Slip the black ring off of the sprinkler head and remove the large metal
spring.

Step 3.
Remove the metal screw from the top of the sprinkler head. Slip the green
nozzle out of the sprinkler head.

Step 4.
Remove the white water filter from the bottom of the sprinkler head.

Step 5.
Snap the white plastic check valve top off with a screwdriver and remove the
metal spring under it.

Step 6.
Press a 3/4" slip x 1/2" female pipe thread (FNPT) bushing into the bottom
of the sprinkler head.

You can plumb the sprinkler heads with PVC schedule 80 pipe nipples and PVC 3/4" slip x 3/4" slip x 1/2" FNPT tees.

To adjust the sweep pattern of the sprinkler head use the large gray plastic screw on top of the sprinkler head.
